Sterling Silver

A large number of our products are made from sterling silver stamped with the UK hallmark. The hallmark guarantees that the purity of the metal is at least that indicated by the purity number. Sterling silver will tarnish in time due to exposure to contaminants in the atmosphere or to natural acids and salts found on skin. This can be removed easily by polishing with a soft cloth using a silver cleaner.

Pewter

Pewter is a highly polished metal that does not tarnish and is simple to clean using warm soapy water. Pewter is essentially made up of tin (90-98%) with antimony (1-6%) and copper (0.5-3%). There is no longer any lead content. Pewter has been labelled as the Metal for the Millennium.

Leather

Leather is a very strong material with many uses. It can be recognised by its natural imperfections and smell. The leather used in the manufacturing of Inkerman products is tanned using natural plant extracts such as bark and rind, chestnut and mimosa and other organic dyes. It is treated with oils or bees wax so that the only real aftercare needed is an occasional brushing with a soft cloth.

Crystal

Lead crystal is made from a mixture of sand, potash and lead oxide. The British standard specification for lead crystal is that it contains a minimum lead oxide content of 24%. Full lead crystal must contain no less than 30% lead oxide.
