We were challenged to create a truly bespoke modern trophy for the historic King George VI Steeple Chase. The design team drew up an impression of a stylised horse's head through the use of three nickel plated precision cut aluminium layers, with polished and brushed finish.
It was then fitted to a mirror polished reflecting plate and two tier acrylic plinth in the sponsor's distinctive colours. Finished with the historic winners going back to 1967.
Standing close to 40cm tall, the trophy was first presented at the Boxing Day race at Kempton Park in 2019. Pictured: Winners Sam Twiston-Davies and Paul Nicholls.
Inkerman helped to create this one-off trophy for Bright Partnerships, DHL's global sponsorship Agency, who created a truly intricate and complex design. How to create a trophy which when seen from above featured a Formula 1 car but when seen from the side showed the DHL logo.
The main body of the design was created by pouring individual layers of acrylic which were then printed with each layer of the car. This process was repeated 20 times to create the 3 dimensional car within the block. This was fitted to the yellow acrylic base with hand painted red accent and printed award details and logos.
The finished piece was shipped by DHL to the end of season race, the Formula 1 Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix before being presented to the winners Aston Martin Red Bull Racing. The team managed to break the world record three times that season ending up with a time of 1.82 seconds during Max Verstappen's pit stop in the Brazilian Grand Prix. A remarkable trophy with impressive detailing, leaving the motoring world wondering how it was created.
Inkerman has been commissioned to do the Grand National trophies for 15 years, we were asked to create a new Liverpool Hurdle trophy for the Aintree Festival in 2017. Ryanair was the sponsor so the brief was to design and create a trophy incorporating the Ryan air wings the low-cost airline, Ryanair. The logo is the Irish harp, the official symbol of Ireland.
The design was created in Sterling Silver with a 12" diameter revere bowl with hand crafted Liverpool 'Liver Bird' handles fitted to a mahogany plinth with a generous engraving band. Finished with a gold plated interior, engraved detailing around the trim and winners on the plinth since 2004. Standing 33cms tall.
First presented at the Liverpool Hurdle during the Aintree Festival 2017 and will be a perpetual trophy going forward.
