Benefits of buying an Antique Trophy

When buying antique trophies you need to be knowledgeable...

If your antique trophy is solid silver or solid gold you need to make sure the metal is thick enough to polish out the existing engraving and re-engrave,  if the silver or gold is too thin you won’t be able to fully polish out the engraving.   If your antique trophy is silver or gold plated and the engraving needs polishing out and re-engraving the cup will need to be re-plated.  This is because  while the engraving is  polished out the silver or gold plate will be polished off at the same time leaving the brass underneath - so requiring re-plating in either silver or gold plate.

Most silver or gold trophies will show the original hallmark showing where and when the piece was made and by which silversmith.    Experts will be able to identify the Assay marks.

There are several reasons why someone might choose to buy an Antique trophy:

1. Historical significance: Antique trophies often have a rich history behind them, and owning one can be a way to connect with the past and appreciate the achievements of those who came before us.

2. Aesthetics: Antique trophies can be beautiful works of art, with intricate designs and fine craftsmanship, the materials and manufacturing of objects form a particular time period and can make for interesting and unique decorative pieces.

3. Investment: Some antique trophies can have significant value, depending on the rarity and condition of the trophy, it may appreciate in value over time.  Some collectors view antique trophies as a potential investment opportunity.

4. Sporting memorabilia: Sports enthusiasts may be interested in antique trophies for a sporting event, to capture the time period or heritage of the event.

5. Personal significance: An antique trophy may hold personal significance for someone, such as being associated with a family member's achievement or a memorable event in their own life. Owning an antique trophy can be a way to commemorate and celebrate these important moments.

The sustainability of antique trophies can be weighed against the environmental impact of creating new trophies.  If an antique trophy is preserved and displayed, it may reduce the demand for new trophies to be created, which can have a positive impact on the environment.  Proper care can extend the life of the trophy and prevent the need for replacements or repairs that would require additional resources and materials.

Overall, the sustainability of an antique trophy depends on several factors and requires an individual assessment based on the specific materials, conditions and care of the trophy in question.
