In conversation with Clare from My Tunbridge Wells

In conversation with Clare from My Tunbridge Wells

We spoke to Clare Lush-Mansell, the founder of My Tunbridge Wells - an events, activities and lifestyle blog and directory, highlighting the best things to do (and buy) around Tunbridge Wells, Kent and East Sussex.

Clare started her blog three years ago while on maternity leave with her youngest son to document the amazing selection of classes, days out and events going on locally. My Tunbridge Wells has gone from strength to strength since then, enabling Clare to give up her job in PR and Social Media Management to work full-time on her own business. Find out more about where Clare likes to shop, her most wished for gifts and more!

Where do you like to shop?

If I’m shopping locally, I usually head for Royal Victoria Place in Tunbridge Wells. Some of my favourite brands there include Oliver Bonas for their dresses and accessories, Lush cosmetics and  Fenwick Department Store. I do also enjoy looking around Cath Kidston, TopShop and Paperchase as well as The Bluebird Tea Company. The lower end of town is especially good for gifts - from places like The White Company, Space NK and Trevor Mottram.

When shopping online, I often get ‘essentials’ from Amazon but am always on the lookout for places to buy quirky or unique gifts. Sprout Children’s Clothing and Fred & Noah are a favourite of mine for colourful children’s clothing, while The English Beagle has some lovely British made items as well as local online independents such as Sketch.Stitch.Love and Love Inc.

Inkerman has such a super selection for gifts - I already have an eye on something to give my husband for Father’s Day.

What do you look for when buying a gift?

I try to buy gifts from independent stores where possible - especially if it’s for a friend or loved one. Price is obviously important, but originality, durability and anything that looks pretty usually works for me!

If you had to choose one Inkerman gift for a girlfriends birthday what would it be?

Oooh it’s so difficult to choose! I love the silver and navy leather clutch and am sure my girlfriends would too. A candle is always a nice option - who doesn’t enjoy lighting and candle and chilling out for a while? Also the colourful leather notebooks gorgeous! I always have a notebook on the go with multiple lists, and encourage all of my friends to do the same. There is only so much our brains can remember.

The personalised crystal champagne cooler is a great idea too - for a very special birthday! It’s a timeless gift that would be used again and again….

What is your most wished-for gift?

A two week trip to The Maldives?! Only joking! Any gift that has shown that the person giving it has put thought and effort into selecting it is always lovely.
